About this qualification
The qualification aims to build on learners’ knowledge and awareness of the prevention and control of infection for those working in health settings and adult or child social care settings. It can also be undertaken by learners in school or college, who would like to develop a knowledge of infection control and prevention.
Learners will develop an understanding of methods of preventing and controlling infection, allowing for progression to the Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care or the Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. It will allow learners already in employment to use this knowledge to improve infection control measures in the workplace.
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is designed for individuals employed in a health and social care role and learners looking to gain a greater understanding of infection prevention and control.
What are the entry requirements?
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 14 or above to undertake this qualification.
How is this qualification structured?
To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 3 mandatory units.
How is it assessed?
The assessment consists of an internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE.
How long will it take to complete this qualification?
The qualification has guided learning hours (GLH) of 70 and a total qualification time (TQT) of 77.
Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
You are not required to be employed to take this qualification.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
Learners could progress to relevant qualifications including the Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care or the Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
Career opportunities
Although not confirming occupational competence, this qualification may aid progression into the workplace. This qualification will allow learners already in employment to use this knowledge to improve infection control measures in the workplace.
