What does the qualification cover?
This qualification develops the basic skills needed to care for a baby or young child. There is a choice of units – from setting a routine through to healthy lifestyles and the importance of play and learning.
What is a nested qualification?
This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a qualification that is the same level and subject within the Award, Certificate structure. This can be done by self-service through the Portal. Qualification nests and top-up pricing can be found in our fees list.
Who is it suitable for?
Anyone who wants to develop parenting and life skills, including those with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.
What are the entry requirements?
You should be at least 14 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines.
How many credits are required to complete it?
The Certificate requires 18 credits. Credits from the Award can be carried over to the Certificate.
How is it assessed?
It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks set by us such as designing charts or leaflets, or methods such as oral questioning.
Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
No, as these are knowledge-only qualifications.
How long does it take to complete?
You can usually complete the Certificate in a year or less.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
The Level 1 in Caring for Children qualifications or the Level 1 Personal and Social Development qualifications, as they share some units with this qualification. Credits achieved from these units can be transferred over and counted towards the next qualification.
