What does this qualification cover?
This qualification is designed for learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of health and social care settings within Northern Ireland.
The qualification is formed of mandatory and optional units.
The mandatory units cover core competencies that have been categorised around the following four key themes:
• Communication and Information Sharing
• Health and Wellbeing
• Principles and Values
• Continuing Professional Development in Health and Social Care.
The optional units allow learners to choose from a wide variety of areas to tailor the qualification to their needs and interests, and to reflect the context of their work.
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for a range of learners, either working or wishing to work in a variety of different settings within health and social care in Northern Ireland.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners should be at least 16 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but centres may have their own guidelines.
How is this qualification structured?
Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain this qualification.
Learners must achieve 37 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 21 credits from the optional units.
How is it assessed?
All units are internally assessed.
Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
Upon completion, learners can progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) (Northern Ireland) or enter the workforce.
This qualification also forms part of the first year of the Extended Diploma, therefore as a centre you will be responsible for the pre-requisite check of learners achieving this Diploma qualification before claiming certification of the Extended Diploma.
